Activity
Our historical 6-mile walk follows the route of the hidden Westbourne Brook from Little Venice to Chelsea. Last leg is to Battersea Power Station with option for ice skating at end of walk. After coffee by the canal, we will stroll through several preserved mews through Bayswater. We then cross Hyde Park, taking in some of the art works along the way. We continue south through the quiet lanes of Knightsbridge with lunch at a hidden courtyard by the original Pantechnicon. We continue through Belgravia, embassies and impressive churches on the way. Then to Chelsea and the grand Baroque-style Royal Chelsea Hospital designed by Wren in 1682. We cross by Albert Bridge, one of the finest of the Thames bridges, to arrive at Battersea. Walk ends in front of the majestic power station on the riverside where there is a seasonal market, food stalls, vintage fairground and the uniquely shaped ice rink. We aim to arrive at dusk when the power station and surroundings are illuminated with spectacular winter lights. We will explore the interior of the power station before the one hour ice skating session at 5pm. Skaters and spectators can join up for meal afterwards as many venues available.
