Activity
This Friday Frolic (6 miles) starts once again in Metroland and passes through the mysteriously named Windmill Hill, past King's College playing fields to enter Ruislip Woods. The woods became London's first national nature reserve in May 1997. Evidence of Bronze Age settlements has been found within the woods during archaeological excavations. The walk will meander through a probably very muddy woodland path through ancient woodland, until it reaches the unexpectedly sandy beach, complete with sunken pirate ship and palm trees, where scenes from Summer Holiday were filmed. The walk traces the small railway track, complete with mini station platforms through the woods, with its well-known colony of bats. Detour on return to explore more woods and meadows.
Refreshments
There is a café at the lido as well as the pub, but we will most probably stop for refreshments in Ruislip Manor before heading off on the tube again.
