Activity
London Open House is the annual festival of architecture and history where government buildings, historic houses, workplaces, schools and private houses normally closed to the public open their doors for free tours for one weekend of the year. This year our 7-mile walk will take in Dulwich, Crystal Palace and Peckham Rye. Venues to be visited follows - we can adapt itinerary as the day unfolds: Old Waiting Room, Peckham Rye Station, once considered one of the grandest waiting lounges in London but for decades boarded up and forgotten. Now restored to the High Victorian style; 15 and a half Consort Road: As featured in Grand Designs, the opening roof, the sliding bed-bath typify this extraordinary response to constraints on a brownfield site; Nunhead Cemetery House: Retrofit of Victorian Terrace; Peckham Rye Common former POW camp: WW2 huts now repurposed for play areas; Pear Tree House: Self-build by architect, around a 100-year-old Pear tree. RIBA award winning house; Cafe stop in Dulwich Park; Six Columns: Hidden extension with innovative design. RIBA winning house; 2 Chalford Road: Retrofit design, opens up previously constrained dwelling; Hemp House: Rear addition using Hempcrete - bio base material which absorbs CO2; Crystal Palace Hill, site of the Crystal Palace with great views.
