Activities

For the new year break we are staying at the Dog House Hotel near Abingdon in the Oxfordshire countryside.

Saturday: We check into our hotel, then we plan a 6-mile walk. From venue we take a short walk along the road then into the woodlands. A short climb not too steep through fields to the Old Rectory. The walk takes us along the lake into woodlands and Parsonage Moor. Our return leg sees us passing the nature reserve and quarry, returning to our hotel for a scrumptious evening meal.

Sunday: After a full hearty breakfast included in price, we will car-share to the stunning little village of Sunningwell to start our 8-mile walk. We pass through the church then into Blackthorn Woods and Foxcombe Hill. Ascending towards Youlburypool this will be a steady climb passing heathland following the Green Belt Way. Then down into the woodland, after a refreshing lunch stop, we will have time to explore Chilswell House and Carmelite Priory. We continue downwards with amazing views towards West Woods, skirting around Woodcraft Wood. After we descend down the quarry, we arrive back at Sunningwell for some well-deserved refreshments. We then drive back to our hotel for a freshen-up and see in the new year with a scrumptious meal.

Monday: We will have our hearty breakfast included in price and bid our farewells.

Refreshments

Bar serving alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beverages. Restaurant serving evening meals. Breakfast included in price. Recommended to bring pack lunch for walk on Sunday.

Travel

Arranging lifts is an individual responsibility and is not arranged by event leader. Nearest stations are Didcot and Radley.

Booking conditions for HAWOG events

  • If you submit a booking and your request can be met then you are committed to the purchase.
  • It is your responsibility to know or check in advance the total price per person or room.
  • If your request can be met then you'll receive an email from the organiser informing you of the total price, how calculated, and you'll be required to pay within 14 days of the date of the email. It's your responsibility to remember to check and respond to that email.
  • All places purchased are for a single bed in a same sex room exclusive to our group, unless agreed otherwise in writing by the organiser or you have booked a stated, available room. The number of beds in a room will vary.
  • If you cancel you will only get a refund if someone else pays for your place. Until then, you'll be expected to pay any outstanding balance. It's your responsibility to find a replacement, you can do this by emailing our group and informing that you have a place to sell, and letting the event organiser know. The group will sell remaining uncommitted places first before 'returned' places.

If your request cannot be met then you will be informed of this and what possibilities are available. You may then inform the organiser if you want to be added to a waiting list and/or submit another booking which meets one of the possibilities. A waiting list means you get informed soonest if suitable places or rooms become available, it does not commit you to purchasing them but you will need to confirm, and book, in a short period of time if you want them.

Methods of Payment

Whilst most membership, surcharges and events can be paid for online via our PayPal account, there are a few alternatives for attendees and events where online payment via our PayPal account is not possible:

  • Pay electronically direct to our group bank account.
  • Pay in person at a branch of our group's bank.
  • Get someone else to pay online for you.
  • Ask the organiser of events you need to pay for, if they will accept payment direct to them (and they pay group for you).
  • Occasionally, cash and cheques may be accepted at key events and dates.
  • Cash and cheques may be accepted for a small handling charge.
