Library Walk

Location

Wye Valley, North Downs Way, Shere, Gomshall, Gomshall and Shalford

Activity

A 10-mile linear walk along the Wye valley and North Downs Way. We will visit Guildford Castle (free) then climb up to the North Downs for the viewpoint at St Marthas on the hill. We continue along the Way to the panoramic setting of Newlands corner for lunch (picnic tables and café). We detour south to the famous Silent Pool before reaching the "prettiest village in Surrey", Shere, with medieval church and pub. We may stop here or the next village of Gomshall (pub and tea shop). We aim to take the scenic North Downs railway back from Gomshall to Shalford. Our last leg of the route will include the historic Shalford Mill before following the Wye river path through lovely countryside back to Guildford and a riverside tea shop. Route is along good footpaths with gradual climbs so suitable for all.
