Activity
Our 6-mile walk takes place in the Weald of Kent. The Spa Valley steam railway passes through the unspoilt beauty of the Kentish Weald (oast houses and orchards) with stops at historic villages, Jacobean palaces and Georgian resorts. Option to alight at Groombridge to visit Groombridge Place, an impressive Jacobean mansion. Otherwise we alight at High Rocks halt. We can explore the acres of breathtaking sandstone rocks, reached via 11 rope bridges. We plan to picnic in the gardens of the Victorian era hotel. We will then walk through the Wealden forests following the Wealdway before crossing Tunbridge Wells Common. At Tunbridge Wells we will admire the former station, now a restaurant. After taking afternoon tea at the colonnaded Pantiles we can taste the reinvigorating Chalybeate waters which created Royal Tunbridge Wells as a Georgian resort. Out town trail takes in the Georgian splendour of the Spa resort, the inspiration of Beau Nash. Option to admire the Victorian Opera House (now a unique pub) before taking trains back to London.
