Activities

We are camping in the High Weald of Kent, at a new site for the group. We will have campfires and barbecue. We are 10 minutes walk from the historic ridgetop town of Goudhurst with its 14th century church tower affording wonderful views over the Kent countryside. The Weald is in mid Kent and has a wealth of stunning castles, gardens, villages, vineyards and orchards to explore. Campsite is on an orchard and has new facilities including on site catering.

On Saturday we plan an 11 mile walk through the orchards, gardens and wild flower meadows of this garden of England. We can visit Bayham Abbey, Lamberhurst village and vineyards, and the romantic ruins and gardens of Scotney Castle with medieval round tower castle within a moat. Route will include Kentish Oast houses, village inns and tea gardens. Barbecue and campfire in the evening.

On Sunday there is the option of off-road cycling at next door Bedgebury Forest with miles of cycle trails and bike hire available. We can also visit one of the best gardens in the country, Sissinghurst Castle and estate, the famous home of Vita Sackville West (6 miles from site). Nearby Bewl Water offers canoe and boat hire, plus there is a steam railway at Tenterden. For those new to camping, we have spare tents and stoves etc. to lend out to people booking. Also B & B option at Goudhurst.
