A 10 mile walk through the rolling hills and impressive countryside of the North Downs. The walk takes in the historic town of Godalming with its notable churches and "pepper pot" roofed town hall. We will pass several late medieval farms and a water mill. Our main climb is to Hydons Ball with stunning views along the way. Hydons Ball is the memorial to Octavia Hill, one of the great Victorian innovators. She co-founded the National Trust and created the social housing movement in London. The walk takes in Busbridge Lakes, which is a habitat to one of the largest collections of water birds with over 80 species in residence. After the walk if time there is a fine museum to the local figures of Lutyens and Jekyll who did so much in Surrey (and elsewhere) in the field of architecture and garden design.
