Sun Nov 7th
We are arranging a one-day workshop covering basic navigation techniques including: an introduction to maps, orientation of the map, determining the direction of travel, distance, and timings, identifying map features, basic compass use and route planning. The day should give you a snapshot of the tools required to plan and undertake walks in lowland terrain. Safety and LNT (leave no trace) will also be covered. Information for the course: Compass and area map provided. Area covered is OS Map 181, Chiltern Hills North - bring this map if you have it. Please bring paper and pencil, usual walking gear and boots, packed lunch and drinks. Flask of hot tea / coffee would be a good idea. We will finish mid-afternoon. The trainer is a qualified Mountain Leader, D of E supervisor and assessor to gold level and NNAS provider. The day will give you an insight into going on to gain the Mountain Training lowland leader or a NNAS qualification if you have an interest in this area. We will offer further training to everyone booked in for the course so that they can aim to become qualified walk leaders for the club.
