A historical 6 mile walk from Kew to Turnham Green via the Thames Path and Chiswick House. We meet at Kew Gardens station (at the Tap) and follow footpath to the National Archives on the riverside. The Public Records Office is free to visit with exhibitions and a shop. After our visit we will continue along the Thames Path to Mortlake. We will visit the medieval church and the unique Mausoleum to Sir Richard Burton. Built in the form of a Bedouin tent it pays homage to the famous Victorian explorer and Arabist. The walk follows the Thames to Barnes riverside with its line of impressive mansions along the terrace. We cross to Dukes Meadows and then Chiswick House. This Palladian villa is seated in landscaped gardens designed by Kent. We can have late lunch at the award winning tea shop here before the short walk to Turnham Green for trains back.
