This 20 mile cycle ride uses three Sustrans cycle trails in Hertfordshire, all created on former railway lines. The Nickey Line, Alban Way and Ayot Greenway connect the towns of Hatfield, St Albans, Welwyn Garden City, Harpenden and Redbourne. National cycle routes 6 and 57 utilise these trails with connecting quiet country lanes. We will explore Hatfield Palace grounds, St Albans Cathedral and Roman remains. Route passes several villages on route, plus the parklands of Welwyn Garden City, created in 1920 as the second of Ebenezer Howard's garden cities. Lots of pubs and cycle cafes on route. Level gradient, suitable for most cycles.
Pubs and cafes on route. Lunch at cycle café in Redbourne.
Hatfield is on Thameslink line from Kings Cross. Free parking a short distance from station.
