This 11 mile walk through the hills of north Kent follows the Greensand Ridge with great views over the Weald. Route will take in Chartwell (family home of Churchill) with famous lakes and gardens. We will walk through Toys Hill village (saved by Octavia Hill), the highest point on the Greensand Trail, and aim to have picnic at viewpoint. The vibrant colours of the National Trust gardens of Emmetts can be viewed via the right of way crossing the estate. After crossing meadows and orchards we reach the historic town of Westerham. The village green has statues of Wolfe and Churchill and is bordered by tea shops and coaching inns for tiffin before bus back to start.
Please bring a packed lunch. Café at Chartwell and Emmets. Tea shops and pub at end of walk.
Hurst Green is on mainline from Victoria. 10:20 service (via Clapham) arrives at 11:05am. Hourly buses from Westerham to Hurst Green, trains back to London every half hour.
