Exploring the Stretton Hills

Fri-Sun Feb 26th-28th

£70 (including supplement) per person for 2 nights. Price based on 2 people sharing each dorm. If we can increase numbers before February due to a future easing of restrictions, then a reduced price can be offered.

We have exclusive use of the All Stretton YHA bunkhouse in the great walking country of the Shropshire Hills. We have limited the booking to 6 due to current regulations. Al walks direct from hostel as it has superb location.
Saturday: Plan a 12 mile walk (2.5 to 3 mph) around Stretton Hills; there are loads, will probably include the famous Long Mynd with stunning views from the summit.
Sunday: Plan to do shorter 6-8 mile walk, to finish mid-afternoon latest (so can depart for home by 3pm). Appropriate footwear required for hills (muddy, slippery paths possible). Ditto clothing for winter walking.
Cycling on the Long Mynd very possible if you don't fancy walking.

Packed lunch and all snacks and drinks required for the walks. YHA All Stretton bunkhouse is self-catering only and says it has the following facilities: "The self-catering kitchen contains one domestic sized cooker, one microwave oven, one fridge, one kettle, and a range of kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery". The town of Church Stretton is a 20 minute walk away and has pubs, restaurants and takeaways.

By train to Church Stretton: Hostel is just over 1 mile away. By car from London: M40 west to Birmingham, choice of routes to get to M54 west which becomes A5 to Shrewsbury. Then take the A49, signposted Hereford / Leominster for 11 miles. Turn right on to the B5477, signposted All Stretton. After approximately a mile, you will pass a large care home on your left and the Yew Tree pub on your right - turn right immediately after the pub, signposted 'Village Hall'. Follow the road to the end and cross the cattle grid. Once on the track and past the houses you will find there is a fence on your right - follow this fence. The track will start to climb, continue to follow it and you will come to the parking space outside the double garage. Leave the car here; walk on to the track and turn right. Walk up the hill - the bunkhouse is the second building on your right. Parking for 4 cars.

YHA All Stretton has three dorms, dining room, lounge, kitchen, one shower, two toilets. All Stretton, Shropshire, SY6 6JW.

Booking conditions for HAWOG events

  • If you submit a booking and your request can be met then you are committed to the purchase. If you cancel you will only get a refund if your purchase is paid for by other(s); note that remaining places will be sold first so you might want to sell the place(s) yourself. Any exceptions will be agreed by committee.
  • It is your responsibility to know or check in advance the total price per person or room.
  • If your request can be met then you'll receive an email from the organiser informing you of the total price, how calculated, and you'll be required to pay within 14 days of the date of the email. It's your responsibility to remember to check and respond to that email.
  • All places purchased are for a single bed in a same sex room exclusive to our group, unless agreed otherwise in writing by the organiser or you have booked a stated, available room. The number of beds in a room will vary.

If your request cannot be met then you will be informed of this and what possibilities are available. You may then inform the organiser if you want to be added to a waiting list and/or submit another booking which meets one of the possibilities. A waiting list means you get informed soonest if suitable places or rooms become available, it does not commit you to purchasing them but you will need to confirm, and book, in a short period of time if you want them.

Methods of Payment

Whilst most membership, surcharges and events can be paid for online via our PayPal account, there are a few alternatives for attendees and events where online payment via our PayPal account is not possible:

  • Pay electronically direct to our group bank account.
  • Pay in person at a branch of our group's bank.
  • Get someone else to pay online for you.
  • Ask the organiser of events you need to pay for, if they will accept payment direct to them (and they pay group for you).
  • Occasionally, cash and cheques may be accepted at key events and dates.
  • Cash and cheques may be accepted for a small handling charge.

For all of the above, please ensure the Chair, Treasurer or event organiser knows how you will pay. Please email us for more information.
