Cornwall Beach Holiday

Thu-Sun Apr 14th-18th

£180 (including supplement) per person for 4 nights in single sex dorm. Option for camping at venue, to be arranged direct with YHA.

We have booked YHA Treyarnon Bay on the north Cornwall coast for Easter. We will be by the sea with some of the best coastal views of any YHA hostel. The hostel has something for every hour of the day for guests, from gig nights to surf lessons, as well as the excellent Trey Bay cafe. This part of Cornwall has spectacular coastal walks, the best surfing beaches in the UK, cycle trails, vineyards, boat trips, steam railways, and fishing ports to explore. Activity days may change in accordance with the weather.

Thursday - Early arrivals can explore the beach and sand dunes of Constantine Bay, famous for surfing and kite surfing.

Friday - A 9.5 mile linear walk from Treyarnon Bay to Carnewas Point. This is a wonderful coastal walk from cove to cove of the awesome Cornish coast. It is a climb to the top and then mainly flat. We will have lunch at Carnewas Point where we will climb down the famous Bedrudden Steps. Wow factor doesn't even begin to cover it. Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps is one of the most popular destinations on the Cornish coast and is an absolute must-see. The landscape is synonymous with shipwrecks and smugglers, and the spectacular clifftop views look out over Bedruthan Steps, where a rank of colossal, pointed stacks march out of the Atlantic waves against a dramatic backdrop. You then have an option to have packed lunch on the beach or climb back up to the National Trust cafe for lunch. We will then continue on to Mawgan Porth which has won awards for its golden sands. We will return to base via coastal bus.

Saturday - We will take the bus to Newquay which is the most popular seaside resort on the north coast. Famous for beaches, surfing cafes, boat trips and harbour views, Newquay is a great place for walks and beach activities. Surfing schools offer taster lessons for those eager to try out the waves. Option to join leaders and others on a special two hour boat tour from Newquay. This is a learning adventure all about seals and the trip involves stopping to view birds, marine wildlife and crabbing boats whilst learning about Newquay's maritime history.

Sunday - A cycling day along the Camel Valley trail. We will take a bus to Padstow and then hire bikes. Starting in Padstow, one of the most attractive seaside towns in Cornwall, the trail passes through the wooded countryside of the upper Camel valley and alongside the picturesque Camel estuary - a paradise for birdwatchers. There are two vineyards on route where we will be stopping for a well-earned rest. Wadebridge and Bodmin are main towns on the route and are full of interest including the Betjeman Centre. Can cycle the complete trail, 20 miles (Bodmin and back) or 10 miles (Wadebridge and back).

Monday - Option to travel on the steam railway from Bodmin Parkway to Boscarne Junction. Evocative 13 mile journey through Cornish countryside. Ideal stop off for those travelling back by GWR train from Bodmin.

The hostel can provide for all your needs. They do breakfast, lunch and dinner for very reasonable prices. They also have a fully equipped self-catering kitchen. Fully licenced bar in the hostel and music on the weekends.

Train GWR service from Paddington to Bodmin. Local buses from Bodmin to Constantine Bay via Padstow. Also option for shared taxi from Bodmin or Padstow. Details available to those booked. Lift share is an individaul responsibility and is not arranged by organisers.

Booking conditions for HAWOG events

  • If you submit a booking and your request can be met then you are committed to the purchase.
  • It is your responsibility to know or check in advance the total price per person or room.
  • If your request can be met then you'll receive an email from the organiser informing you of the total price, how calculated, and you'll be required to pay within 14 days of the date of the email. It's your responsibility to remember to check and respond to that email.
  • All places purchased are for a single bed in a same sex room exclusive to our group, unless agreed otherwise in writing by the organiser or you have booked a stated, available room. The number of beds in a room will vary.
  • If you cancel you will only get a refund if someone else pays for your place. Until then, you'll be expected to pay any outstanding balance. It's your responsibility to find a replacement, you can do this by emailing our group and informing that you have a place to sell, and letting the event organiser know. The group will sell remaining uncommitted places first before 'returned' places.

If your request cannot be met then you will be informed of this and what possibilities are available. You may then inform the organiser if you want to be added to a waiting list and/or submit another booking which meets one of the possibilities. A waiting list means you get informed soonest if suitable places or rooms become available, it does not commit you to purchasing them but you will need to confirm, and book, in a short period of time if you want them.

Methods of Payment

Whilst most membership, surcharges and events can be paid for online via our PayPal account, there are a few alternatives for attendees and events where online payment via our PayPal account is not possible:

  • Pay electronically direct to our group bank account.
  • Pay in person at a branch of our group's bank.
  • Get someone else to pay online for you.
  • Ask the organiser of events you need to pay for, if they will accept payment direct to them (and they pay group for you).
  • Occasionally, cash and cheques may be accepted at key events and dates.
  • Cash and cheques may be accepted for a small handling charge.

For all of the above, please ensure the Chair, Treasurer or event organiser knows how you will pay. Please email us for more information.
