Activities

We are staying at the recently refurbished YHA Swanage, situated minutes from the beach with great views over the bay. This weekend sees the start of the Swanage Carnival featuring music, fireworks, water and land sports, treasure hunts, and the magnificent two mile carnival procession on the seafront on Sunday afternoon.

Friday night sees the ever present homemade chilli from scratch for weary travellers. We can then go into town to sample the live music on Sandpit Field. Early arrivals can explore the carnival show and beach.

Saturday: We start our 10 mile walk along the South West Coast Path to Old Harry Rocks, where we can take in the wonderful vista. We then head onward to Studland Bay, taking in the Pill Box on the beach and up to Lord Henry Barracks. Option to stop at the the Café on the Beach or walk up to the pub with its breathtaking views across Bournemouth Harbour. Route then crosses Studland Hill, up to the Obelisk onto Round Down then back to town. The town will be bustling with Carnival folk and there will be enormous amounts to do in the late afternoon. We may arrange an impromptu barbecue at the hostel or a choice of pub / restaurants in town. Saturday night highlights include live music at the Sandpit Marquee and the spectacular firework display at 9:45pm.

Sunday: Our 8 mile circular walk will take in the South West Coast Path heading west, passing Durlston Country Park and viewpoints. We will return to the beachfront for the carnival procession at 3:00pm. After the procession we head back up to Sandpit Field for drinks at the Marquee and the music. Also option to travel on the Swanage Steam Railway to Corfe Castle.

Monday: For those staying another night we will spend the evening at the Carnival with live music and talent shows into the small hours. After packing up we take the challenge of the tricky but rewarding Carnival Treasure Hunt then say our goodbyes with a last drink in town.
