Activity

This 10 mile linear walk takes in two sections of the Capital Ring, from Richmond to Greenford. Option to leave at 5 mile point at Osterley. First half of the walk is one of the easiest sections of the Capital Ring with the most riverside walks. It is level walking, mainly on firm towpaths and tracks and some grass. The route takes in Richmond riverfront, Old Deer Park and observatory, Richmond Lock, River Thames, Old Isleworth, Syon Park, Brentford Lock and the Grand Union Canal. Second half of the walk is a very green walk along the Grand Union Canal towpath, beside the River Brent and through a series of parks and open spaces. It is mostly level walking, on firm towpaths and tracks and grass or earth, but may be muddy in wet weather. There are some short slopes. The route follows the Grand Union Canal and its locks at Hanwell, passes under the Wharncliffe Viaduct, and crosses Brent Lodge Park and Perivale Park.
