Activity

National trails and long distance paths crisscross the Chilterns in this area. This 12 mile circular walk makes use of short stretches of at least four such to provide a beautiful and varied walk through Chiltern woodland, on Chiltern chalk downs with wide vistas from the scarp edge of the hills, along a stretch of the historic Grand Union Canal, and through one of the prettiest villages in Hertfordshire, Aldbury. All the walk is in the AONB and much of it on NT land - the Ashridge estate and Pitstone Hill. The Bridgewater Monument is open in May for visitors to climb to the viewing platform for stunning views.

Refreshments

There are several opportunities to stop for refreshment. Our main stop for lunch will be at the Bridgewater Monument, halfway through the walk, where there is a NT café. Option to bring packed lunch as very popular picnic spot here.
