This 10 mile circular walk follows the Thames on both banks and features two abbeys, a unique tunnel and several riverside pubs. From Marlow our route takes in the woods and meadows north of the Thames. At Medmenham we will visit the estate of the Cistercian Abbey. There are two manors here, Danesfield and Wittington House. The sunlight magnate who owned the estate created a 150m long tunnel under his grounds to ensure ramblers did not disturb his views and this continues today. We cross the Thames at the lock to reach the ancient village of Hurley where the remains of a Benedictine Abbey can be visited. Pubs for lunch at either village, to be decided on the day. Our route back follows the Thames to the riverside town of Marlow where we may have drinks at the riverside inn.
Pub lunch. Pub at end of walk.
Marlow is on GWR line from Ealing, trains stop at stations on route. Free parking a short walk from station.
