Activities

Staying at new campsite on hills above Avon valley between Bath and Bradford upon Avon. We will have campfires and barbecue. Good facilities including new shower block and glamping options at reasonable rates (see details on campsite website). The Blackberries camping park is situated in the peace and quiet of the Wiltshire countryside on the edge of the Cotswolds and just outside the quaint village of Monkton Farleigh with pub and village shop. We plan a 10 mile walk direct from site on Saturday over hills to the Kennet and Avon canal. Our route will follow the canal via scenic valley and pub stop for lunch; we will explore the historic town of Bradford upon Avon with a national trust tea shop for tiffin before returning to the campsite. On Sunday we can walk to Bath and explore the cathedral city, (Roman Baths, cathedral, spa town architecture). Also option to hire bikes for canal side bike ride or boating (boat hire centre nearby). The area in which the Blackberries Camping Park is situated provides ideal cycling terrain and there are numerous places of interest to cycle to for example, the 15th century village of Chalfield and the Saxon town of Bradford-on-Avon. The cycle way along the Kennet and Avon Canal which forms part of the larger "Wiltshire Cycle way" makes for a relaxing and relatively easy cycle (it is all on the level).

Refreshments

Self-catering on site. Pub 10 minutes walk from site. Lots of pubs and tea shops on walks. We plan barbecue on Saturday.

Travel

Car share via forum. Regular trains to Bath and Bradford from Paddington. Can also arrange lifts from station with those attending (booked in advance). Campsite driving advice: we like to advise first time visitors to avoid Prospect Place when arriving, this is a narrow and extremely steep hill, however a lot of Sat Navs will see it as the quickest route. We suggest you head for Kingsdown Golf Club - SN13 8BS - and follow the signs for Monkton Farleigh from there; it's a much flatter route. Site is 4 miles from Bath and 3 miles from Bradford upon Avon. Nearest rail station is Bradford upon Avon with bus X86 serving both Bradford and Bath and stops by campsite.

Accommodation

The Blackberries Camping Park, Farleigh Rise, Monkton Farleigh, Bath, BA15 2DY. We have spare camping equipment (tents etc.) to lend out for those new to camping.
Details on glamping option (to be booked direct with site): if you fancy camping with a bit of 'glamour' they offer glamping in a 'pod', 'shepherd hut' or 'bell tent'. Each pod or shepherd hut has integral double bed and heater and is warm and cosy. The bell tent can accommodate up to six people on comfy air mattresses. You can light your campfire in the evenings and chat, toast marshmallows or just sit and watch the night sky.
